About Our Tutors
At the same time, ICUT tutors have been chosen for their ability to communicate effectively with students so as to make learning a useful experience. Tutors are chosen after a serious search has been made of their teaching track record, and professional references are taken up. Interviews are always held and not all applicants are successful by any means. However on the whole, ICUT is proud to boast of some 400 tutors with excellent credentials teaching every subject in most areas of the United Kingdom
Here is a sample of our premier team of tutors.
Mr Ivan Bingham B.Sc.(Hons.), M.Sc.
Originally a Geographer, Ivan Bingham was Vice-Principal of Northern Ireland’s Southern Further Education Institute covering Newry, Banbridge and Portadown.
He has taught English at all levels in literature and as a second language to overseas students. Ivan’s teaching track record of motivating young and mature adults as well as English overseas learners is second to none. Now in retirement he continues to offer his services to ICUT students mainly those seeking help with English. ICUT is indeed fortunate to have such a consummate professional among its tutors in Northern Ireland.
*Professor Gerald Vinten (Business Studies, Ethics and Business Policy, Essex/London)
A well published scholar with over 25 book titles to his credit, plus innumerable articles in journals and specialist papers presented to forums. Professor Vinten has lectured at various universities and colleges in Britain, USA and Europe, including University of Luton, Bath Spa University, London University, Southampton Business School, John Moores University, Liverpool, Ithaca College, New York, Ecole Superieure, Paris and currently the London City Institute. His experience as a teacher, examiner, external moderator and scholar has made him a distinguished choice among our students as a source of guidance and help with undergraduates and post graduates alike. Professor Vinten’s scholarly eminence he carries lightly, and indeed many students have come away as impressed by his personal modesty as his willingness to help with their problems.
* Professor Vinten died recently after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Dr Andrew Dunn (Sociology and Social Policy, South Wales and Bradford)
Aged 32 years, Dr Dunn recently obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Bradford for a thesis on the future direction of the British Welfare State. His experience of teaching successive generations of students at one of Scotland’s (and indeed Britain’s) prime universities means that he has much to offer students seeking his help with dissertations, personal learning and general subject guidance. He is happy to tutor students both in person and on-line in term and in vacations.
