New Tutors Are Needed

Tutor Regulations
- (a) Tutors will be treated as PAYE employees and required to pay tax and National Insurance. (b) Tutors wishing to be treated as self employed must provide the Director with evidence of their self-employment status.
- Assignments will be formally communicated to tutors in writing, along with pay rates, venue and any risk assessment factors.
- Where a tutor is assigned to undertake an assignment by Skype or online, this will be specified clearly from the beginning.
- Where a tutor is asked to undertake an assignment which involves assisting with the drafting or checking of coursework, this will be specified from the beginning.
- Payments will be made by cheque on production of report by the tutor.
- Tutors are expected to observe professional conduct and to respect the examination regulations of the institution/body in which their student(s) is sitting on.
- All information supplied about professional careers and personal affairs will be retained in the strictest confidence by the Director. Tutors are assured that requests by students or parents for their CV and access to their records will be refused without hesitation – Only statutory authorities request will be conceded.
- Tutors are advised that it is a condition of membership of ICUTs Approved Tutors Panel that they respond swiftly to offers of work. Such offers may be accepted or declined but tutors are required to give a clear and swift response either way. Any tutor who delays responding without good reason is liable for removal from the Panel.
- Tutors shall not enter into private arrangements with ICUT students. Any tutor breaching this regulation will be removed from the panel.
- It is expected that tutors shall carry out the teaching sessions they have contracted. Any changes to an agreed schedule should be notified to the Director and approval sought.
- Where a tutor has accepted a teaching, mentoring or proofing assignment, but finds that he/she is unable to fulfil the task, or there has been a change in personal circumstances, it is expected that the tutor shall notify the Director immediately. Arrangements can then be made to allocate the task elsewhere. Note: A dim view will be taken by the Director of any tutor who delays to communicate such changes.
- Tutors are required to notify the Director of all new appointments booked with students. Under no circumstances should a tutor accept an appointment without informing the Director as soon as possible thereafter.
- All tutors are required to supply a brief written report to the Director after the first session of a new teaching assignment, notifying the Director of all lessons given each week and provide a short summary at the conclusion of the assignment.
- Where a tutor has been asked to guide a student on particular tasks and a deadline is unlikely to be met, the tutor is expected to keep the Director informed of any such changes.
- Tutors are expected to keep the Director informed about changes of address, contact telephone numbers, email addresses and changes to times of availability.
- It will be assumed that all tutors have familiarised themselves with these terms of engagement and will be deemed to have agreed to them.
